Can You Wear Air Optix Night & Day Aqua Lenses All Day?
If you’re someone who puts your contacts in first thing in the morning and doesn’t take them out until you’re getting ready for bed, you need a lens that can keep up with you.
Air Optix Night & Day Aqua is a monthly contact lens from Alcon that’s designed to let a lot of oxygen reach your eyes. It’s also one of the few contacts that can be prescribed for overnight wear.
So, can you wear them all day?
For a lot of people, yes. But there’s no set number of hours that’s going to work for every person. Some people are perfectly comfortable wearing their contacts from morning to night, while other people’s eyes are ready for a break much earlier.
What Makes Air Optix Night & Day Aqua Different?
The big thing with Air Optix Night & Day Aqua is oxygen permeability. These lenses are made from a silicone hydrogel material called lotrafilcon A that allows a lot of oxygen to pass through the lens.
They’re also monthly contacts, so you’re not opening a fresh pair every morning. You wear the same lenses for the replacement period your eye doctor gives you, taking them out and cleaning them as directed.
How Long Can You Wear Air Optix Night & Day Aqua in a Day?
You might be completely comfortable wearing your contacts all day. Or maybe your eyes start feeling dry around 4 p.m. after you’ve been staring at a computer since breakfast.
Your environment matters, too. Air conditioning, heat, allergies, dry air, lots of screen time, and just having a particularly long day can all make your contacts start bothering you sooner than usual.
If your contacts are getting uncomfortable, take them out and give your eyes a break.
Can You Sleep in Air Optix Night & Day Aqua?
Technically, yes, if your eye doctor has approved it for you.
Air Optix Night & Day Aqua is FDA-indicated for extended wear for up to 30 nights for appropriate wearers.
That’s pretty unusual for a contact lens, but it also needs a giant asterisk next to it.
Being approved for overnight wear does not mean everyone wearing these contacts should sleep in them. Sleeping in contacts increases your risk of eye infections and other complications, and some people simply aren’t good candidates for extended wear.
At Blue Planet Optics, we always recommend taking your contacts out (even Air Optix Night & Day Aqua) before bed unless your eye care professional has specifically told you it’s okay to sleep in them.
Why Do My Contacts Feel Fine in the Morning and Dry Later?
Even really breathable contacts can start feeling less comfortable after hours of wear.
Maybe you’ve been staring at your laptop without blinking as much. Maybe your office is insanely dry. Maybe your allergies are bad that day. There are a million little things that can make contacts feel different from one day to the next.
If you notice that your contacts always start bothering you after a few hours, though, that’s worth bringing up with your eye doctor. You might need a different lens, fit, or wearing schedule.
Do You Have to Clean Air Optix Night & Day Aqua?
Yes. They’re monthly contacts, not daily disposables, so if you take them out and plan on wearing them again, you need to clean and disinfect them properly.
Follow the instructions for your contact lens solution and whatever routine your eye doctor recommends.
Can You Wear Air Optix Night & Day Aqua Every Day?
Yes, as long as they’ve been prescribed for you and you’re wearing them the way your eye doctor told you to.
Most people are still going to have a wearing schedule that involves taking their contacts out, cleaning them, and putting them back in.
If your eye doctor has approved you for extended wear, your schedule may be different.
Are Air Optix Night & Day Aqua Good for Long Days?
If you regularly have really long days in your contacts, they’re definitely a lens worth asking your eye doctor about.
Air Optix Night & Day Aqua lets a high amount of oxygen reach the eye and is designed for longer wear.
However, comfort level with contacts is also super individual. Some people find a contact they love and could practically forget they’re wearing it. Someone else can try that exact same lens and not like it at all.
